School

Type of School

A Community Mixed Welsh Medium Primary School.

The School Site

Ysgol Glan Morfa stands on the outskirts of Abergele just off the A55 and it serves the town and the surrounding area. The school was opened in 1957 and now has 228 full time pupils and 36 nursery children.

The school has been organised into  nine  classes. The staff and the governors work closely to ensure that the school environment stimulates the children’s enthusiasm and adds to the learning experience.

The School’s Language

As a Designated Welsh Primary School, Welsh is the school’s language—the language of learning and the language of play.

It is the parents choice to send them to us as Welsh speaking parents and non-Welsh speaking parents. As several of the children who start with us are non-Welsh speaking, all effort is made to immerse the children in the language during the early years through play, singing songs, repeating and mimicking. It is always surprising how quickly the  children learn and develop the language. Latecomers to Year 3 are assured a place in the Language Centre in Dolgarrog for a Term, before returning to school.

By the end of Key Stage 2 the children are fully bilingual and are able to communicate effectively in both languages.

Appropriate arrangements are made between Ysgol Glan Morfa and the high school’s it feeds to ensure that the pupils settle well and continue to develop their education.

The school endeavours to communicate bilingually with the parents at all times.
